During the hurricanes last year a video went viral about a faux interpreter in Manatee County, Florida who warned us about the dangers of pizza and bears and monsters (oh my!). Thanks to incidents like these, other cities started thinking about developing a way for the deaf to gain easy-access to such warnings.

New York City is the first to have a completely accessible website with access to live interpreter who will work with you to find/explain information found on the Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities. What’s impressive is their claim to have completely interpreted press releases and dangerous weather warnings that are normally hard to access for the deaf. They also offer information on housing, local recreation, and employment.
