Businesses make face mask mandatory

Businesses make face mask mandatoryTranscriptThe heated debate over face masks continues as some major businesses decide to make them mandatory. When you head into Starbucks for your triple tall, skinny, vanilla, flat white or whatever your order of choice is, the company is saying you better have a mask.Starbucks is now requiring them for all customers at all US stores. The policy went into effect Wednesday. For those who will not wear a mask they can go through the drive-thru, get curbside pickup or delivery. Best Buy and Costsco are also now requiring all shoppers to wear face masks. And starting next week Walmart, Kohls and Kroger customers can't shop without a mask. Some industry groups and unions have been pushing for stricter mask policies. But some retail chains have been reluctant to do that because they say the move may not go over well with the customers who are opposed to wearing face masks. Some states are stepping up their efforts as well. Alabama has become the 36th state to issue a mask mandate. But some states are heading in the opposite direction.Wednesday Georgia Governor Brian Kemp urged residents to wear masks and social distance on Twitter. But Wednesday night Kemp signed an executive order banning cities and counties from mandating that people have to wear a mask in public. With no federal mandate in place leaders are encouraging people to act responsibly.Posted – 7.16.20

Deaf news: Requesting stories for tribute

Hello! The Daily Moth is collecting short stories about the Deaf people who lost their lives due to Covid-19. We would like to do a tribute. The purpose of this is to remember who they were by sharing their story and to recognize them as part of our Deaf community. If you know someone that should be included in this tribute, please contact me at renca@dailymoth.com. Please do not post a comment with that Deaf person's (who passed away) name or tag that person's friend or family member. Please email me privately. The goal is to collect stories within two weeks. If you have any questions or clarifications, feel free to email me too.Thank you.
